Past

"A man's errors are his portals of discovery" - James Joyce.

I find this to be very true to be growing up, and I am thankful of every mistake along the way, as long as I learn something from it. Drawing was one of my expressions. I could always draw and interpret things much easier on paper than in words. This would explain why I dove into graphic design as soon as I could!

Another expression of mine is music. During my high school years, I was a part of multiple Jazz and Latin bands, ranging from small 5-6 man combos all the way to Jazz Big Band. The highlight of this was when I won outstanding drummer awards for both combo and big band at the West Coast Jazz Festival.

The dream I have always followed is the desire to fly. One of my life goals is to still become a helicopter pilot, and I work towards that every day. Thankfully I can tie my other desires like graphics and web development to aid me in getting to that goal.

Present

I currently work within the Provincial Government of British Columbia, supporting the ministries of Economic Development and Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. I primarily do ordering for the ministries I support, writing up orders for new IDs, computers, hardware, software, data, access, etc, while also maintaining the Intranet, doing designs for my manager, and anything else that falls on my shoulders.

On the side, I work as a web designer / programmer. I enjoy programming PHP for websites, allowing for dynamic content and other implementations to open up for me. I like to work on a website from beginning to end, from idea to implementation.

As for my education, I have always continued and have yet to take a year off. I am a recent graduate of the Computer Systems Technology Diploma from Camosun College, and have returned to do the 1 year Web Design Certification course. The Certification is thankfully part time, so I continue to work with the Government full time while I complete this class. After that, I have yet to decide which routes I am taking, but I still plan to either return to Camosun for additional courses, or attend another College / University to extend my education further.

Future

"I look to the future because that's where I'm going to spend the rest of my life." - George F. Burns

I am not certain where the future may take me, but I am eager to follow it and find out. I've kept an open mind about everything around me, and accept change where it is needed to keep going. The wonderful thing about the computer industry is that it is ever changing.

Towards the future, I desire to learn more 3d and possibly 3d animation to incorporate into Flash / Web design. Anything to make you a bit more unique when it comes to the World Wide Web never hurts!

Origins of "BluWolfe"

The name Bluwolfe simply originated from my favourite colour, and the animal I have the most respect for. When I combined to two looking for an online alias, "Bluewolf" felt too bland and unoriginal. Ironically moving one letter made the name feel like it had more symmetry when you look at it.

I have had great results with it, since almost anyone I've ever met under the alias always remembers who I am, and has never had an issue with mixing names with another "BluWolfe", which is why I am very happy to call my site and online portfolio this.

Also, in a more serious manner, the words Blue and Wolf mean the following things in an artistic / logical sense, which I feel I support very well:

Blue

Blue is calming. It can be strong and steadfast or light and friendly. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Light Blue is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness.
Dark Blue represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness.

Wolf

Wolves are regarded as teachers or pathfinders. Wolves are fiercely loyal to their packs, and have a strong sense of family while maintaining their individualism. Wolves are not naturally aggressive although they can be if called upon; It is about knowing your inner power without need to demonstrate it.
